CNC Box

I designed an elegant metal box to house a mini soldering station.

The invisible hinges use a linkage mechanism to create a seamless closure. Countersunk magnets help to keep the box shut.

Swappable internal trays and accessories allow the box to be used for a variety of needs. For the soldering station, the trays are used to hold the iron, tweezers, cleaning sponge, and deployable stand.

Thanks to its parametric design, the dimensions of the box can be configured to any size while maintaining a universal hinge geometry. I designed the box to be easily manufactured with both additive and subtractive processes. An entirely 3D printable version can be found on Thingiverse. In the end, I used a combination of CNC-machining and 3D printing to produce the final product.
